There are thousands of ways to generate division between people, sushi is just a particularly yummy one. Happily, if you are reading these lines chances are you belong to those you love nothing more that to pamper themselves with a fancy portion of delicate raw fish and what better excuse than to celebrate International Sushi day. So if you are in the Dublin area on the 18th of June and looking to do a proper celebratory meal I suggest you take a look at these places.
1. Eatokyo

This is my absolute go-to place for Japanese food, any time a friend feels indecisive about where to eat they find themselves ringing the bell of this cozy spot. Its location in front of the Ha´penny Bridge is unbeatable for convenience and views and the service has never been anything but lovely and efficient.

They have a pretty decent early bird that allows you to pay close to a tenner for what has to be the heartiest ramen I’ve tried in this country, seriously, that miso broth is the stuff of happiness. Their sushi is mouth melting and generous in portions, accompanied by two choices of soy sauce and the usual decorative veggies and the popular gyozas are steamed as opposed to the more common fried version. A true gem.
Eatokyo has locations on Temple Bar, Talbot Street and another coming soon on Capel Street.
2. Michie Sushi

I first came across Michie Sushi while having my car serviced at the Sandyford Motorcentre, I completely forgot about the several hours waiting period and the rain made it impossible to go for a walk, so being that The Beacon shopping centre is nearby and that it was lunchtime somewhere in the world, we decided to do some restaurant exploration.

I must confess, I’m somewhat of a conservative when it comes to sushi, I favour salmon and tuna above the rest and, although I try to venture outside those, I quick come back to them. Michie Sushi has the best combo for us purists, for 14€ one can get a 14 pieces set of exclusively tune and salmon. Their Tori Karage, a dish of chicken marinade in soy, ginger and lime was breathtaking and the smell and aspect of the dish on the table to my left made it sure for me to decide to go back.
Michie Sushi
has locations in Ranelagh, Dun Laoghaire and Sandyford and has a delivery service.
3. Musashi

This chain has locations on Hogan Pl, Sandyford, ISFC, Parnell street, Capel street and Blanchardstown, I have been to the first two and although the ambience was quite different they both have a more “serious restaurant” feeling to them than the other places mentioned. Where Eatokio and Michie are cozy spots with smallish establishments, Musashi has bigger areas, dimmer lights and a quiet but elegant Saturday dinner air to it. Or maybe is just the fact that I’ve only been to them for such occasion.

A great option is to order a Bodan sushi selection, some chicken dish and maybe a starter and share happily…or happily get all for yourself. Whatever floats your boat, it will not leave you indifferent.
Have you tried any of these restaurants? Are you new to sushi but ready to up your game? Do you prefer other options in the menu? Please let me know, I love to share sushi love.
